Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is the first step toward creating an aquarium? A. Contact one of our creative sales consultants. He or she will address your wishes, help you determine whether custom or pre-designed is your best alternative, formulate a design, arrange for measurements and initial drawings, and work with you throughout the design-build process.
Q. When should we get started? A. The ideal time to contact Living Color is during the preliminary planning stages of your renovation or construction project -- more so for a custom aquarium than a Discovery Collection model, which installs almost as easily as a piece of furniture. Of course, we'd be glad to work with you at any time.
Q. Are there any size limitations? A. For a custom aquarium, there are almost no size limitations.
Q. How long does it take to build a custom aquarium vs. selecting a Discovery Collection model? A. Size and shape will determine the time frame. Plan on about 8-16 weeks to design, fabricate, deliver and install a custom aquarium in your home or business. Choosing a Discovery Collection model will cut that time in half.
Q. How much does an aquarium cost? A. Discovery Collection models start at $12,900. The size and shape of a custom aquarium, the reef, and the surrounding material will contribute to the cost, which typically starts at about $25,000.
Q. How many fish can I have? A. Marine life relates to the size of the aquarium as well as the life support system (LSS). Discovery Collection models typically support between 14 and 25 fish, depending on the model. Whether you select a Discovery Collection model or choose to create a custom aquarium, our marine life experts would be glad to work with you to create a portfolio of your favorite fish, as well as help you select species that will thrive in the particular environment you have chosen.
Q. Does your installation team travel? A. Yes. The cost of your custom aquarium includes installation, wherever you are located. You may choose to install the Discovery Collection models yourself (a complete installation manual accompanies each model), or we can quote an installation fee for you.
Q. How do I obtain a price quote? A. Click here to contact one of our creative sales consultants who will be glad to discuss your plans.
Q. How often should my aquarium be cleaned? A. Although each aquarium has its own conditions, we typically recommend cleaning your freshwater aquarium once every two weeks and your saltwater aquarium once a week. Our team of aquarium care experts can develop a customized maintenance program for you, to optimize the health and appearance of your aquarium.
